About the National Schools Debating Championships

The National Schools Debating Championships (NSDC) is Australia’s pre-eminent high school debating competition.

Since its inception in 1971, the NSDC has brought together the top debaters from every state and territory, fostering excellence in critical thinking, public speaking, and civic engagement.

Beyond the competitive rounds, the NSDC promotes educational equity, leadership, and community connection through workshops, outreach programs, and public events. It also serves as the primary selection ground for the Australian Schools Debating Team, which represents the nation on the global stage at the World Schools Debating Championships.
